Pirramimma
Alexander Campbell Johnston planted his first small vine cutting in 1892 and today the Johnston family still produce estate grown wine and operate one of Australia’s oldest wineries – Pirramimma. The word Pirramimma is an Aboriginal phrase meaning “the moon and the stars”.
Winemaking at Pirramimma has been a family affair for well over 100 years and is now in the very capable hands of Geoff Johnston, grandson of the winery’s founder.
Over 60% of the 180 hectares are planted in premium red wine varieties, including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot (Australia’s very first 100% Petit Verdot). Pirramimma has embraced biological farming and sustainable practice producing outstanding fruit.
